The Great Green Macaw, Ara ambiguus, also known as Buffon's Macaw, is a Central American parrot found in Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Columbia, and Ecuador. Two isolated subspecies are recognized, the nominate form is found in Central America to Northern Colombia, while the A. a. guayaquilensis is found in Ecuador and possibly south-western Colombia. They are the largest parrots in their natural range .
Blue and Gold Macaws reach sexual maturity between 3 and 6 years of age. Like other macaws, they are monogamous birds, breeding during the first half of the year.
The male and female Macaw are similar in appearance and the females may have a more slender head. The Macaw is a warm weather bird and its main habitat is in Central America. In South America you will find the Macaw in Northern Colombia, The Amazon region, Southern Venezuela, and The Guianas
